ETSI’s Industry Specification Group on Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) concluded its first hackathon series with successful events in Beijing, Berlin, and Turin where developers tested applications using ETSI MEC APIs for in-vehicle infotainment and other use cases. Teams utilized MEC platforms from Huawei and Intel to build solutions ranging from real-time multiplayer game optimization to collision avoidance systems, demonstrating the portability of applications across virtual machine and container-based architectures. Winners received recognition for innovation and practical deployment, with one team’s solution selected for inclusion in Turin’s Smart Road project to test 5G automotive infrastructure. These events highlighted the growing global enthusiasm for open MEC standards and interoperable systems that will support emerging 5G services.
