ETSI has released three new specifications for Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), including a glossary of terms in GS MEC 001, technical interoperability requirements in GS MEC 002, and a reference architecture with functional elements in GS MEC 003. These documents aim to standardize terminology and enable seamless deployment of MEC applications within mobile networks, positioning the technology as a key building block for 5G alongside NFV and SDN. The ISG is currently advancing nine new studies focused on APIs, management interfaces, and end-to-end mobility, following four successful Proof of Concept demonstrations. MEC is recognized as a critical enabler for IoT, mission-critical vertical solutions, and innovative business opportunities across multiple sectors.
