New ETSI Mobile-Edge Computing Industry Specification Group starts work – ETSI

The Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC) Industry Specification Group has launched to standardize an open environment that integrates IT and cloud capabilities directly into the Radio Access Network for ultra-low latency and high-bandwidth services. The group has established a workplan targeting five specifications by mid-2015, beginning with terminology, service scenarios, technical requirements, and a proof-of-concept framework. This initiative aims to enable seamless third-party application integration across multi-vendor platforms while providing real-time access to radio network information and location awareness. Participation is open to all ETSI members and non-members who sign the required ISG agreements to help accelerate the development of edge applications.
