The University of Oulu has established a state-of-the-art 6G Test Centre featuring a millimeter wave and Terahertz anechoic chamber alongside a software-defined radio network that fully exploits 5G standards to serve as a global academic research hub. This infrastructure supports four distinct development paths: utilizing complete 3GPP standards, employing modifiable software-defined radio components, integrating disruptive technologies like intelligent reflective surfaces, and leveraging artificial intelligence for network optimization and edge computing applications. Beyond the campus, the centre includes specialized outdoor facilities such as OuluZone for autonomous vehicle testing and the underground Callio Lab in Pyhäsalmi for simulating GPS jamming and radio disturbances in harsh environments. These comprehensive resources enable researchers and international consortiums to prototype next-generation wireless solutions, validate resilience against interference, and drive innovation in areas like real-time language translation and dual-use defense networks.
