Jan Ellsberger has been elected as the new Director-General of ETSI for a five-year term, succeeding Luis Jorge Romero who served for thirteen years. Ellsberger brings over 30 years of standardization experience, including leadership roles at Ericsson and Huawei, and previously managed ETSI’s relations with ITU-T and key standard development projects. He has pledged to lead with transparency and collaborate closely with members to strengthen the organization’s role in 5G and future generations of ICT standards. Romero highlighted ETSI’s successful adaptation during the pandemic and its continued leadership in global standardization before stepping down.
