ETSI – Activity Report CYBER

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is developing guidelines to help industries protect their systems against future quantum computers. Through their CYBER QSC Working Group, ETSI published a technical report (TR 103 949) in May 2023 that outlines how to move critical infrastructure, like transportation systems, to quantum-safe cryptography. This standard helps organizations plan the transition from current security methods to new ones that quantum computers cannot easily break.

While ETSI is not creating the new encryption algorithms themselves, they are focusing on the practical architecture and migration strategies needed to implement them. This work supports international partners like the ITU and ISO to ensure global compatibility. A dedicated conference on these quantum-safe advancements is scheduled for May 2024 in Singapore, highlighting the ongoing effort to secure digital networks against future threats.
