ASCET (formerly CET) is a new initiative led by ASTM International designed to develop standards for emerging technologies, with quantum technology highlighted as a key focus area. The group recently held its first workshop to discuss how to ensure U.S. industry has a strong voice in global standard-setting for quantum systems alongside AI and biotech. The effort is in its early stages, working with partners like NIST and ANSI to define the scope of future work based on feedback from industry and academia.
The program aims to support U.S. private sector participation and improve the quality and compliance of future quantum technologies through four main pillars, including workforce development and data sharing. While no specific quantum protocol has been finalized yet, the initiative plans to launch pilot programs to integrate advanced standardization processes early in the development cycle. This groundwork is intended to help shape the industry’s direction and ensure U.S. leadership as quantum technologies mature.
