ETSI’s Industry Specification Group on Integrated Sensing and Communications has released ETSI GR ISC 003, a report defining the architectural foundations for integrating advanced sensing into future 6G systems. The document introduces a comprehensive system reference model supporting monostatic, bistatic, and multi-static configurations while outlining essential functionalities like sensing service control, data processing, and secure result exposure. It further details new RAN requirements for RF sensing, including task coordination, measurement configuration, and strategies for interference mitigation and flexible resource allocation. This publication provides critical guidance for 3GPP’s ongoing exploration of 6G ISAC architectures and addresses future challenges regarding multi-operator coordination and sustainability.
