One year on: Strengthening ETSI’s Voice in Global Digital Policy – ETSI

Under Chief Policy Officer Martin Chatel, ETSI has repositioned standardization as a strategic tool for Europe while expanding its global influence through six international missions and alignment with the Quantum Europe Strategy. The organization formalized 13 new partnership agreements in 2025, including collaborations with South Korea’s TTA and the European Patent Office, to foster open competition and ensure the worldwide adoption of standards in AI, quantum technologies, and cybersecurity. Looking ahead to 2026, ETSI plans to streamline European standardization workflows by reducing citation delays and leveraging its role in trade agreements to deepen technical alignment with key partners in Asia, the Americas, and Africa. These efforts aim to sustain ETSI’s dual status as a European and global standards body, ensuring digital technologies remain accessible and fair through initiatives like SESEI VI and GIST.
