The University of Oulu’s 6G Visible project investigates how 6G technology and distributed computing can enhance autonomous driving by fusing vehicle sensor data with external information sources like weather forecasts. Led by the M3S research group and the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the initiative aims to develop software architectures that ensure the strict reliability and security required for fully autonomous vehicles. Key research focuses include real-time data fusion, AI-driven decision-making, and the use of digital twins for testing in both virtual and real-world environments. The project, funded by Business Finland, seeks to create concrete use cases and business opportunities for the Finnish automotive software industry through collaboration with partners such as Elektrobit and Siili Auto.
