ETSI releases its two first reports on THz communication systems – ETSI

ETSI has released two new technical reports, GR THz 001 and GR THz 002, which establish the foundational use cases and regulatory landscape for future 6G terahertz communications. The first report details specific deployment scenarios, propagation characteristics, and requirements for high-data-rate applications that also enable advanced sensing and imaging capabilities. The second report identifies frequency bands between 100 GHz and 10 THz as the primary THz range, analyzing incumbent services to facilitate coexistence studies for future spectrum allocation. Together, these documents address the critical need for increased bandwidth and lower latency required for 6G systems expected around 2030.
