Usa meeting reinforces global importance of machine-to-machine communications. Global standards enable cellular operators to capture potential of M2M communications – ETSI

Over forty telecommunications experts gathered in Philadelphia to advance the standardization of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, focusing on the efficient integration of cellular and non-cellular networks for applications like smart energy, healthcare, and transportation. The meeting highlighted a working prototype demonstrating seamless end-to-end architecture managed via cellular networks, a system now being standardized by ETSI to enable robust service platforms and APIs for global deployment. ETSI M2M committee chair Marylin Arndt confirmed that the initial requirements definition phase is complete, with the first standard release scheduled for the first semester of 2011 to support interoperability across vertical markets. Host InterDigital emphasized its role in this process through advanced R&D efforts aimed at creating a future “Network of Networks” that intelligently connects diverse devices.
