ETSI shares award for energy-efficient solutions for mobile broadband networks – ETSI

The EU-funded EARTH project received the 2012 Future Internet Award for developing energy-efficient solutions for 4G/LTE base stations, which represent the highest power consumers in mobile networks. Researchers from major industry partners and universities optimized base station power usage to lower operator electricity bills and enable reliable operation via renewable energy sources. The project, supported by €10 million from the EU’s 7th Framework Programme, ensures its findings align with ongoing standardization efforts in ETSI and 3GPP to reduce carbon emissions without compromising service quality.
