TV operators currently restrict consumer equipment to specific platforms through proprietary Conditional Access and Digital Rights Management systems, creating a market lock-in that limits competition. To address this, a new ETSI group is establishing standardized security architectures for interoperable software-based CA/DRM solutions that support both broadcast and broadband distribution. These standardized systems aim to provide flexibility, enable multi-screen environments, and open the market to a wider ecosystem of service providers and consumers. The inaugural meeting for this initiative is scheduled for April 8-9, 2014, at ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, with participation open to all ETSI members and non-members who agree to the ISG terms.
