Eurosmart, a Brussels-based industry association advocating for hardware with strong security functions, has signed a cooperation agreement with ETSI to align legislative initiatives with standardization mandates. The partnership aims to bridge EU political goals and technical standards, particularly leveraging ETSI’s TC SCP work on SIM and UICC cards which underpin nearly 60% of the 9 billion secure element units expected to ship in 2016. Key applications supported by this collaboration include digital signatures, multi-generation cellular connectivity, NFC Single Wire Protocol, and cryptographic algorithms for telecommunications. This joint effort seeks to promote certified solutions that integrate security and privacy by design within the European Union’s Digital Single Market.
