Luis Jorge Romero, ETSI’s Director-General, outlined his eight-year tenure marked by the adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, network virtualization, and blockchain while maintaining the organization’s financial stability and inclusive governance. Elected for a five-year term that can be extended by members, Romero brings 30 years of telecommunications experience, having previously held senior roles at Telefónica and in standardization bodies such as the NGMN Alliance and GSMA. ETSI continues to operate as a not-for-profit European Standards Organization with over 850 members worldwide, providing an open environment for developing globally applicable ICT standards.
