World Standards Day 2020: STANDARDS ARE ESSENTIAL TO PROTECT THE PLANET – ETSI

CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI are joining the global community to celebrate World Standards Day on October 14, 2020, with a focus on how standards can help tackle the climate crisis and support the European Green Deal’s net-zero targets. European Standards (ENs) are highlighted as essential tools for boosting energy efficiency in appliances and infrastructure, facilitating waste recycling, and enabling sustainable production of materials like steel and cement. ETSI emphasizes that future ICT standards for 5G and beyond must prioritize environmental friendliness and energy efficiency to ensure global interoperability, while CEN and CENELEC leverage over 90,000 experts to align European best practices with international ISO and IEC frameworks. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the European Single Market and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals through common rules that respect planetary boundaries.
