ETSI has released the DECT-2020 NR standard, a new technology foundation designed for autonomous local area wireless applications that operates in the global 1,900 MHz band without requiring frequency planning. The standard supports massive machine-type communications (mMTC) and Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) through self-organizing mesh topologies, enabling high-density industrial automation and professional wireless audio without infrastructure investments. Its physical layer utilizes advanced OFDM, MIMO operations up to eight streams, and flexible channel bandwidths to deliver high bit rates and reliability across 17 frequency bands below 6 GHz. This specification allows solution providers to independently develop private networks for logistics and building automation, with further application-specific profiles planned for the ETSI TS 103 636 series.
