ETSI has released three new reports to standardize networking protocols for the 5G era, addressing challenges in mission-critical systems like industrial control and remote medicine. The first report outlines the limitations of current TCP/IP networks and proposes new protocols for improved spectrum efficiency, Quality of Service, and security. The second report details implementation and testing approaches for Non-IP networking over 3GPP cellular access, including support for low-power IoT and tactile feedback applications. The third report demonstrates how Flexilink technology can carry multiple services such as RINA and digital audio-video using specific packet formats and control plane requirements. These documents collectively establish a technical foundation for next-generation networking that meets the stringent requirements of modern 5G applications.
