ETSI Announces New Software Development Group for Common API Framework – ETSI

ETSI has launched the SDG OpenCAPIF group to develop open-source implementations of the 3GPP CAPIF specification, enabling third-party applications to seamlessly interface with 5G networks through standardized APIs. The initiative aims to support network function virtualization, edge computing, and automation scenarios by providing a CAPIF Core Function that facilitates API testing and reduces deployment friction. OpenCAPIF will collaborate with external projects like CAMARA and TM Forum to ensure alignment between 3GPP standards and industry best practices while minimizing code duplication. Founding members include Fogus Innovations, Keysight Technologies, Motorola Mobility, and Telefónica, with the group’s kick-off meeting scheduled for January 2024 in Madrid.
