Academy of Finland grants €5 million for Finnish-US research collaboration

The Academy of Finland has awarded €5 million to support 11 Finnish-US research collaborations, with the University of Oulu receiving €1.6 million for four specific projects focused on 6G wireless technologies and machine learning. These initiatives, selected by the Academy alongside the US National Science Foundation and NIH, aim to develop energy-efficient terahertz communications, vision-guided systems, and autonomous network architectures. Principal investigators from the Centre for Wireless Communications and the Research Unit of Mathematical Sciences will partner with researchers at US institutions including UC Irvine, Virginia Tech, UC San Diego, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The funded research is scheduled to run from 2023 through 2025, targeting advancements in next-generation mobile networks and AI-driven communication solutions.
