The University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship has released the fifth issue of its Waves magazine, outlining the four strategic research areas guiding the program’s intensive second phase through mid-2026. These areas include Wireless Connectivity, which targets ultra-reliable low-latency communications and 1 Tbps speeds; Devices and Circuit Technology, focusing on Terahertz materials for unlimited connectivity; Distributed Intelligence, prioritizing Mobile Edge Intelligence for time-critical applications; and Human-centric Wireless Services, which maps vertical application requirements for disruptive value networks. The publication emphasizes that these research directions aim to define key system building blocks and enable global 6G standardization by the program’s conclusion.
