The PRIORITY project is a two-year initiative with a 7.3 million euro budget aimed at developing critical communication solutions that complement existing mission-critical voice services with broadband data capabilities over commercial 4G and 5G networks. Research will focus on four key areas: providing broadband service in remote locations, differentiating quality of service for diverse needs, ensuring communication security, and enabling interworking between dedicated and commercial networks. The consortium, led by the University of Oulu, will test these technical solutions in three application scenarios including search and capture, smart rural business, and emergency response using the 5G-Force platform and the 5G Test Network. The ultimate goal is to create new business ecosystems and elevate public safety communications beyond traditional narrowband technologies like TETRA to meet the high reliability and security demands of modern threats.
