Japan’s Shimizu Corporation partnering with Finland’s University of Oulu to drive innovation that will make society more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable

Shimizu Corporation and the University of Oulu have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a co-funded Idea Contest focused on leveraging 5G and 6G technologies to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable society. University students will participate in a radical innovation course to develop prototypes addressing challenges in education, energy, logistics, and personal well-being, with the goal of creating solutions applicable within three to five years. The winning entries will be judged by industry and academic experts, with top teams invited to Japan in July 2023 to demonstrate their innovations alongside Shimizu’s Business Innovation Unit. This collaboration aims to harness Finland’s leadership in 6G research to drive disruptive technological advancements in the architectural, engineering, and construction sectors.
