New academy projects at the University of Oulu for research in science and technology

The Academy of Finland has awarded four-year funding to the University of Oulu for 15 research projects, with a specific focus on high-quality applications rated 5 or 6 in scientific review. A key project led by Pekka Kyösti investigates radio wave propagation above 100 GHz to support future 6G systems, including the development of measurement systems and channel modeling for higher data rates. Other funded initiatives address sustainable development challenges, such as eliminating fluorinated contaminants in water and studying carbon-water interactions in the Arctic, alongside research on AI regulation and space weather. These projects aim to produce partial solutions to societal challenges and will utilize international infrastructures to ensure scientific novelty and feasibility.
