10 years of ETSI NFV – its Network Operators Council’s perspective on the past, present and future – ETSI

To mark its tenth anniversary, ETSI ISG NFV released a whitepaper reviewing the evolution of Network Functions Virtualization from its 2012 inception to its current role in 5G consolidation, non-public networks, and edge environments. The document analyzes how successive specification releases have translated original concepts into formal standards to ensure interoperability and guide the technology ecosystem. It further highlights NFV’s impact as a key enabler of network transformation and an accelerator for research and innovation. The release coincides with a celebration event at ETSI in March 2023, where the group will discuss future challenges and opportunities for the technology.
