Cross-sector involvement is key to standards for Internet of Things – ETSI

Over 130 participants from more than 20 countries gathered in Sophia Antipolis to discuss the Internet of Things, covering domains such as IoT for people, motion, homes, cities, and energy. Key workshop findings highlighted the urgent need for clear business cases, legal certainty regarding privacy and regulation, and the integration of diverse industrial technologies through unified standards. ETSI addresses these challenges by developing market-driven standards for data security, management, and transport, primarily through the oneM2M partnership project. The organization’s standardization work encompasses machine-to-machine communications, intelligent transport systems, eHealth, and the optimization of telecom networks to efficiently handle machine-type traffic.
