ETSI releases the first global KPI on energy-efficiency in ICT – ETSI

ETSI’s OEU Industry Specification Group has released the DCEM Global KPI, a new metric defined in ETSI GS OEU 001 to assess the eco-efficiency and energy management of data centers across various sizes and performance levels. This indicator combines four component KPIs—energy consumption, task efficiency, energy reused, and renewable energy usage—into a single formula based on the ES 205 200-2-1 standard. The metric aims to enable benchmarking of data centers in diverse industrial sectors while accounting for greenhouse gas reductions in line with the Kyoto protocol. By including energy reused for purposes other than data center operations, the KPI provides a comprehensive method for measuring sustainable ICT infrastructure performance.
