ETSI and ITU join efforts on ICT environmental impact methodology – ETSI

ETSI and ITU-T have jointly approved a new specification, ITU-T L.1410 and ETSI ES 203 199, which establishes a standardized methodology for assessing the environmental impact of ICT goods, networks, and services across their entire lifecycle. Developed by ETSI’s Technical Committee on Environmental Engineering and ITU-T Study Group 5, the document provides manufacturers and service providers with a reliable tool to evaluate sustainability while highlighting potential efficiencies in energy use and inventory management. This coordinated effort aims to clarify available standards for the industry, facilitating faster adoption, greater economies of scale, and lower costs for consumers. The specifications are expected to be released to the industry shortly following their first-stage approval.
