ETSI has released GS 028, a new standard defining a Wireless LAN Information (WAI) service for Multi-access Edge Computing that exposes real-time WLAN conditions via RESTful APIs. This specification enables edge applications to optimize connectivity and quality of service by combining WLAN data with mobile or fixed network information, which is particularly valuable for latency-sensitive use cases like AR/VR. The API is currently available for download in serialized format through the ETSI Forge platform to support heterogeneous wireless network strategies.
