ETSI standard to secure digital signatures solves issue for 4,000 banks – ETSI

ETSI has released TS 119 182-1, a new standard called JAdES that enables interoperable digital signatures for JSON-based APIs, specifically supporting the European Union’s eIDAS Regulation and Open Banking requirements. Developed with input from the banking sector, this specification extends the features of existing advanced electronic signature standards to the JSON Web Signature format, allowing secure transactions across banking, government, and commercial environments. The standard ensures the authenticity of financial data and prevents tampering, providing a unified security model for APIs used in regulated and general electronic commerce. By aligning with PSD2 and Open Finance goals, JAdES facilitates trust in electronic business transactions globally while leveraging established PKI-based technologies.
