From Oulu to Seoul – Building 6G Networks That Can See and Sense

The University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship has launched the three-year 6G-WISECOM project in partnership with South Korean institutions to develop Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technologies. Funded by Business Finland and the IITP, this initiative aims to equip future wireless networks with multimodal sensing capabilities using cameras, lidar, and visible-light communication alongside novel radio technologies. Researchers will leverage artificial intelligence and advanced spectrum sharing to enable context-aware networks capable of supporting smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and resilient industrial automation. The collaboration builds on existing ties between Finland and Korea, with the project officially commencing in Oulu to advance global 6G development through shared expertise.
