Representatives from the three European Standardization Organizations (CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI) met with European Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes to present recommendations for implementing the EU Cybersecurity Strategy. The ESOs, through their Cybersecurity Coordination Group, urged the establishment of a coherent governance framework under EU Regulation 1025/2012 to harmonize standards, protect personal data, and support the Single Market. Vice-President Kroes endorsed the need for Europe to lead in cybersecurity standardization and emphasized the importance of coordination among the ESOs, industry, and citizens. In response, ETSI announced the launch of a new Technical Committee on Cybersecurity to address industry needs and privacy concerns, while CEN and CENELEC pledged to align their research and standardization efforts with the strategy.
