ETSI has launched a new Industry Specification Group on millimetre Wave Transmission (ISG mWT) to address the high capacity potential of the 30GHz to 300GHz spectrum for backhaul and fronthaul applications. The group aims to overcome current barriers such as regulatory fragmentation, component shortages, and technology confidence by developing common views on licensing, propagation models, and semiconductor roadmaps. By focusing on the V-band and E-band, ISG mWT seeks to enable fibre-like wireless speeds for mobile networks and wireless local loops while reducing total cost of ownership. Participation is open to all ETSI members and non-members who agree to the ISG terms, with the goal of standardizing high-speed transmission technologies across the industry.
