At the ETSI summit in Sophia Antipolis, industry leaders emphasized that open source software and standards are complementary rather than competitive, with open source driving innovation and standards ensuring long-term stability and interoperability. The event highlighted the growing necessity of open source tools for virtualization and cloud technologies, noting that ETSI’s testing center already utilizes open source toolchains to develop and validate specifications. Various organizations, including the OAI, oneM2M, and the NFV ISG, discussed how open source implementations can serve as reference models for evaluating new standards. ETSI plans to host further workshops on licensing and open source topics to support the continued integration of these approaches in future ICT developments.
