ETSI will host its first workshop on next-generation radio for rail on November 2-3 in Sophia Antipolis, France, to discuss the evolution of railway telecommunications beyond the current GSM-R standard. As European operators finalize GSM-R roll-out, the event will address the transition to 5G mobile systems developed by 3GPP, where ETSI serves as a founding partner. The workshop features four tracks covering technical challenges, spectrum requirements, and future technology synergies, followed by Q&A sessions for stakeholders including equipment manufacturers, railway undertakings, and policy makers. Participants can register for free to exchange information on short-term and long-term developments for the future of rail mobile communication.
