The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking has adopted its 2023 Research & Innovation Work Programme, allocating €132 million in public funding to launch the second phase of Europe’s 6G development. This call features three complementary streams: Stream B focuses on revolutionary technology advancements and IoT at low-to-medium Technology Readiness Levels; Stream C targets system enablers and proof-of-concepts to consolidate Europe-wide experimental infrastructure; and Stream D facilitates large-scale trials in priority verticals like automotive and health. The programme builds upon the 35 projects from the first phase by shifting focus toward system-oriented research, prototyping, and addressing industrial, sustainability, and societal challenges to support 6G standardization starting in 2025.
