The 5G Strategic Deployment Agenda (SDA) outlines a vision for European railway communications through two key initiatives: the “Gigabit Train” targeting 3-5 Gbps passenger connectivity and “Digital Rail Operations” utilizing the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS). Funded by the Connecting Europe Facility and aligned with the SNS JU mission, this roadmap aims to deploy advanced 5G technologies along designated corridors by 2027 to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. The agenda addresses five core objectives, including defining service requirements, identifying necessary technical innovations, and establishing regulatory frameworks to support public-private cooperation. Ultimately, this document serves as a foundational framework for investment and implementation strategies to revolutionize European rail transportation.
