ETSI has released TS 102 796 V1.3.1, the latest specification for HbbTV 2.0, which introduces support for companion devices, HTML5 user experiences, and advanced video delivery features like Ultra HD and HEVC. This hybrid broadcast broadband TV standard enables the creation of open global platforms that combine broadcast and over-the-top content, allowing consumers to access interactive services such as video-on-demand and electronic program guides across connected TVs, set-top boxes, and smart devices. The new version also enhances user privacy, supports Timed Text Markup Language for subtitles, and facilitates synchronization between applications on televisions and companion screens like smartphones or tablets.
