The Femto Forum, in cooperation with ETSI, successfully completed the world’s first femtocell plugfest involving over twenty vendors to validate the interoperability of 3GPP Release 8 standards. The event tested critical components including femtocell access points, network gateways, and chipsets to verify the Iuh interface and IPsec/IKEv2 security protocols required for secure public internet connectivity. By confirming consistent interpretation of the standard, this plugfest aims to enable mass-market deployment and allow operators to multisource femtocell equipment similar to mobile handsets. The results provide essential feedback to the standardization process and build confidence for a fully open, interoperable femtocell ecosystem.
