The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) has adopted its 2024 Research & Innovation Work Programme, allocating €129 million in public funding to advance 6G research and support global standardization efforts. The third call for proposals features three main streams: Stream B focuses on high Technology Readiness Level research for revolutionary 6G technologies, Stream C targets system enablers and experimental infrastructure integration of microelectronics and photonics, and Stream D facilitates large-scale trials with verticals to demonstrate sustainability. Key strategic priorities include two “Lighthouse projects” to validate sustainable-by-design networks, the development of an end-to-end AI reference framework, and strengthened international partnerships with countries like Japan and South Korea. This program builds upon previous phases to expand a portfolio of over 60 projects, aiming to establish robust 6G standards and strengthen the European supply chain through pan-European experimental platforms.
